39 students obtained 9A’s in year 2018 at the G. C. E. Ordinary Level Examination and 222 students were qualified to do G. C. E. Advanced Level studies out of 242 students (91.74%).

Co-Curricular Activities

Sinhala Literary Association

The Senior Literary Association along with the Debate Club of our school conducted the inter school debate competition. This was conducted in five rounds among few selected schools in the vicinity and from Colombo. The Grand Finale was held on 6 July 2018 at the College Auditorium. The panel consisted of seven judges and among them were Mr. C. Susantha Kumara, an attorney at law and Mr. Sanjaya Ranathunga, Judge of the Supreme Court.

English Literary Association

The members were able to obtain the 2nd place by performing the drama ‘Macbeth’ in Shakespeare Challenge Trophy at the National level Drama Competition. Miss Chandula Pathirana won the 1st place in translation competition.

 

Environmental Society

The environmental society could make it into another remarkable year under the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution” to help to promote a worldwide awareness and an action for the protection of the environment.

The world environmental day was celebrated by the environmental society with the cooperation of the other societies concerned.

There were two main functions that took place on the day. They were

  1. Piping the medals on the environmental pioneers.
  2. Awarding the winners of the “home gardening” competition.

 

The following environmental activities were launched in the past year 2018.

·         Promoting home gardening
Senior and Junior prefects, members of the “Environmental Society” (Mihikatha Daruwo), Eco Group (Primary) and Environmental Pioneers were encouraged to promote home  gardening. Vegetable gardening was done at the vicinity of each hall respectively.                                                                                   We were able to get the fullest cooperation from the Divisional Agricultural officer to make this project a success by providing necessary instructions and overall supervision was done by her. Finally, the best home garden was selected and prizes were awarded.

 

·         The “Osu Uyana”
The “Osu Uyana” in school was established, which became the key interest and it was pioneered by the Environmental Ministry of the “School Student Parliament”. Indigenous plants were provided by the Ayurvedic Department of Maharagama and we could get the support most needed by them.

 

 

Sinhala Drama and Theatre society

Ms. Teesha Michelle won the award for the best student actress and our teacher Ms. Dinethri Perera won the award for the best music director, for the Western Province category at the ‘Lama Natya Ulela – 2018’ which was held in Colombo.

Eastern Music Club

The group won the All Island Carrol Competition 2018 under the category of new composition in Sinhala Medium conducted by the Ministry of Christian Affairs.

They won 2nd place in duet singing at the All Island classical singing competition.

They also won the 2nd place in new composition category folk music at the Western Province singing competition.

 

Western Band, Western Music

Our Senior Western Band participated in “Kuala Lumpur International Outdoor Band Competition 2018” held in Malaysia in August 2018. They were able to secure the Bronze medal.

 

 

Extra-Curricular Activities

Girl Guides

  1. All the Girl Guides, Little Friends and Guiders in our school participated in Gampaha Zonal “Thinking Day Walk” in par with Lord and Lady Baiden Powell’s birthday held on 22nd of February 2018 at Gampaha. The Theme of the year was “Impact”.
  2. Gampaha Zonal Girl Guides, Little Friends and Guides participated in the International Women’s Day celebrations held at our school’s main hall on the 12 of March 2018.
  3. Our Girl Guides Dimagi Karunarathne and Ruvini Ann were members of the Western Province team who took part in “Sustainable Development Goals” a table discussion competition held at Girl Guide Head Quarters, on the 31 of March 2018 and won the first place.
  4. Our Girl Guides and Guiders participated in Gampaha Zonal Sinhala and Tamil New Year Programme which was held in Kirindiwela Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya on the 7th of April 2018. Girl Guides, Little Friends and Guiders enjoyed this very much.
  5. A three-night Girl Guide Camp was held at the college premises from 2nd to 5th August in 2018.
  6. BP QUEST, an international event – competition was held at Camp Christine, Singapore from 31st August to 4th of September 2018. Three Girl Guides represented our country and all of them were from our school.

  7. 35 Little Friends were enrolled on 8th of October 2018.
  8. Our Guiders both Mrs. Wasana Perera and Mrs. Rashadi Nonis have passed the Warrant Badge (theory) paper exam held in Colombo on the 13th of October 2018.
  9. Western Province Revels, sleepover and Pack Holiday (Little Friends’ Camp) held at Ygro Camp Site, Madampe from 7th to 10th Our Sylvanna Mrs. Chathuranadee Gankewala and 12 Little Friends participated in the event.
  10. Sanduni Rangika, Kalani Shehara, Sujayee Athukorala and Yenuli Welarathne got through the President’s Guide Qualifying practical exam.
  11. Dahami Ranasinghe, Lihini Athukorala, Sewmini Jansz and Andry Michelle got through the President’s Guides Qualifying exams both theory and practical.
  12. 28 Girl Guides were enrolled on 2nd of July 2018.

 

Cub’s Association

Our Cub’s Association stepped into a higher level during the year 2018 by receiving Bronze medals for 20 cubs. They also participated in 120th Jambori. They participated in Mirigama Siyane Education Cabori and all won the Cabori medal. The teachers in-charge Miss Nimnadi Rodrigo and Miss Sakuni Perera and our trainer Mr. Sandun Perera tooka lot of trouble in developing the Association.

Athletics

Our athletes have achieved many goals in bringing honour and glory to our Alma Mater during the year 2018.

  • Division and Zonal meets – Girls Championship
  • Sir John Tarbat 2018 –              Shanika Lakshani placed a new meet record in 800m and silver medal in 400m under 18.                                          Nawangi Neha gold medal in Triple Jump – Under 16.        Nawangi Neha, Shanika Lakshani, Gihani Gomis, Roshendri Kavindya, Erandi Sewwandi, Chathumi Dahanayake and Achini Sewwandi won the Gold medal in 4 x 400m – Under 18.
  • National Schools’ Athletic meet 2018 – Shanika Lakshani won the Gold medal in 800m and Bronze medal in 400m.
  • 3rd Asian Youth Athletic Championship held in Hong Kong March, 2018. Shanika Lakshani got 4th place in 800m and 5th place in Girl’s Medley Relay.
  • All Island Schools Relay Championship 2018, Under 16 Athletes Silver medal in 4 x 200m and Bronze medal in 4 x 100m Medley Relay – Under 18.
  • We were the overall runners up at the Western Province Schools Athletic Meet – 2018.

Netball

  • Gampaha Educational Division Netball Tournament – Champions in Under 15, 17 & 19.
  • Western Province Tournament – Under 19 Runners up
  • Milo Tournament Gampaha District – Under 19 Championship, Runners up in Under 17, 15 & 13.
  • All Island Schools Milo Tournament – Under 17 & 19 and were among the super teams.

 

Volleyball

  • Under 20 Runners up at the Western Province Matches.
  • Runners up at all Island Tournament.

Table Tennis

Our Table Tennis group is developing and achieving their targets day by day and year by year.

  • Ministry of Sports XLIV National Sports 2018 – Champions
  • Inter Divisional Secretariat Competition – 2nd Place
  • 3rd Place, Under 14 C division Champions at the Western Province School Games 2018.
  • Table Tennis Team Championship – Under 14 B division

 

Taekwondo

Year 2018 was a remarkable year for the Taekwondo players both in National and International fields.

It was written in Gold in the history of our College in the field of Taekwondo that our dear Shainey Odugama was selected for the National School Team representing Sri Lanka for the 8th Tairak International Taekwondo Championship which was held in Bangkok and was able to win the gold medal and brought honour and glory to her Alma Mater and the country.

 

Rifle Shooting

Our emerging shooters were able to achieve the National Colours in Sri Lanka Schools Games.

Gymnastics

In the year 2018 our Gymnastic team participated in the Gampaha District Annual Gymnastic Championships 2018.

  • Januthmi Dahamsa Dayarathna – Won the 1st place, Under 12 Girls’, floor exercises and 2nd place for vault. And she was also the champion under 12 girls’ event.
  • Achini Anujana Kohomban won the 1st place for under 10 girls – floor exercises and 2nd place for vault.

 

Roller Skating

Our Roller Skating team participated in the Junior National Roller Skating Championship 2018.

  • Thamasha Shenali won the 1st place in 200m, and 2nd place in 100m, 3rd place in 1000m events and she won the championship under 14 girls’ events.
  • Asini Manujawa won the 3rd place under 12 girls’ 500m and 3rd place in 1500m.
  • Nishini Lourdes Peter won the 3rd place under 12 girls’ 1000m event.

 

Badminton

  • Our badminton team won the championship in National Sports Festival’s Gampaha District Badminton team tournament and became runners-up in Western province team tournament conducted by Ministry of Sports in year 2018.
  • We also ranked as the second runners-up  ‘A’ division 2nd runners-up at the All Island Inter Schools under 19 badminton team tournament and under 17 team tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association.
  • Holy Cross Shuttlers were able to win the championship at the Gampaha Zonal Junior National Badminton Championship – 2018 conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association. We won 7 individual championships out of 9 in above tournament.
  • Nivodi Perera and Oshadhee Karunarathna won 3rd place in under 17 doubles event at All Island ranking level 1 tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Badminton Association.
  • Our players also participated in National Badminton Championship 2018 conducted by Sri Lanka Badminton Association.
